Our Story

“Understanding is the essence of love. If you cannot understand, you cannot love.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

School of the Wild was born from the realisation that the best way to nurture a love between people and nature, is through knowledge and understanding.

Our vision (and hope) is for people to love and respect and preserve nature when they truly understand it.

There is a big difference between looking out over a beautiful vista, in ignorant bliss, and just seeing "bush and trees", as apposed to being able to recognise individual species by name, know how they work, and why they are so valuable to their ecosystem. With this deeper knowledge, one might be more inclined to protect those individual trees, or bush thickets, or the larger area they exist in, in order to thrive and support their immediate ecosystem. The same applies to all creatures, big and small, on land or in the oceans.

Explore our hand-curated listing of immersive learning experiences close to you, and find your next adventure, to connect with nature on a deeper level, through understanding. Feel free to comment on trips or experiences you have done, and share your learnings with the community. Reach out to teachers to give them feedback or make a request. Email us if you're inspired to write a piece for our "Field Notes" section - where we highlight particular learnings from an experience listed on the site. Let your creative juices flow, and express the deeper connection you achieved.

We aim to foster a new generation of informed nature lovers, who ultimately become guardians of nature.

Welcome to our community of wild-folk!
